USO Houston Advisory Council President (2008-2011)
¨2010 & 2011 Escorted 100 severely wounded soldiers from Brooke Army Medical
Center on the sidelines of the Military Appreciation Day for the Houston Texans
along with President Bush 41 and 43, Bob McNair, Rick Smith, and Cal McNair–
a history making event
¨Invited former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and 4-star General, Richard /em>
Myers to USO Appreciation Diner to speak to USO donors
¨Escorted Dignitaries from Houston to the 20th anniversary of the Gulf War invasion
at the George HW Bush Presidential Library, January 20, 2011 for a special reunion
and private dinner in the Library Rotunda following the presentation. The key
players of the foreign policy team in attendance, included: James A. Baker III,
Bush’s secretary of state; former Vice President Dan Quayle, then-Defense
Secretary Dick Cheney, former Joints Chiefs Chairman Colin Powell; Bush’s
national security advisor, Brent Scowcroft; retired Marine Corps General Walter
- Boomer; and emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber al-Sabah.
Barbara was asked to be the table hosts for the emir of Kuwait
¨Presented Houston Texans Owner, Bob McNair in a special ceremony at Reliant
with 300 soldiers, Houston Texans executives, and local media on hand with a
“soldiers cross” which sits at the main doors of Reliant Stadium
¨Worked closely with the Houston Police Officers Union in bringing resources to the
department for helping local officers identify PTSD
¨Escorted USO Houston donors to the USO Gala in Washington DC
¨Worked closely with country singer Trace Adkins and his team for a “meet &
greet” for Wounded Warriors at the Houston Rodeo, 2009, 2010 & 2011
¨Worked with lifetime Houston Livestock & Rodeo Chair, Don Jordan to bring
longtime friend Wayne Newton to be the spotlight of the Grand Entry and
presented Wayne Newton with a special award at Ellington Field with troops
¨Organized over 200 USO Kids to attend private Houston Texans practices,
Watermelon Walk for the Fallen, Homecoming for US Troops and to appear
regularly on military radio shows
¨Organized first ever, USO Telethon. Worked closely with KPRC and President
Bush 41, Wayne Newton, Eric Maddox, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Don
Jordan to be interviewed “live” on air for program, raising over $100,000 in 1 day
¨Raised $40,000 & worked with 4-Star General Cone at Ft. Hood to bring 2,000
troops from Ft. Hood to attend Livestock Show & Rodeo’s Military Appreciation
Day
¨Organized with USO Washington, a special event at the George Bush Presidential
Library, USO Houston donors for a private tour and private lunch with both
President Bush 41 and First Lady Barbara Bush
